Advanced Options – Masks

Masks mark off areas around very bright objects and artifacts in the SDSS data that must be taken into account when analyzing nearby objects.

A set of instructions was written to remove the light from those objects from the light from surrounding objects.  Knowing where the masks are can help astronomers make decisions about how confident one can be in the data and what additional adjustments need to be made.
